Stephen M. Purcell, D.O.
Dr. Purcell was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania and raised in South Jersey, near Philadelphia. He is married with two grown children. He is a graduate of Muhlenberg College and Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his dermatology residency program at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He served eight years on active duty as a physician in the Air Force. He received his license in New York in 1981 and in Pennsylvania in 1988. Dr. Purcell returned to the east coast in 1988 to begin practicing dermatology in Allentown and Pottsville. He is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology. In addition, he received a certificate of special competency in dermatopathology from the American Osteopathic Association. Dr. Purcell's medical articles have been published in several dermatologic journals. He has lectured at national, regional, and local medical meetings. Dr. Purcell holds an appointment as Professor in Dermatology and is Chairman of the Division of Dermatology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is the Director of the Dermatology Residency Program at Frankford Hospital. Dr. Purcell practices general dermatology but has special interest in cosmetic dermatology including laser surgery and treatment of spider veins. He sees patients in the Allentown and Pottsville offices.
