Cosmetic Lasers

What is new in cosmetic lasers?

Advances in laser technology now allow dermatologists to precisely control the removal of unwanted skin lesions. Laser and intense light systems target specific lesions, and eliminate them with minimal risk of damage to the surrounding normal structures, minimizing the risk of scarring and accelerating the healing process.

At Advanced Dermatology Associates, we have several laser and intense light treatments available to address specific skin problems.

Unsightly leg veins and "broken" blood vessels of the face can now be treated without anesthesia using the PhotoDermTM VL intense pulsed light system or the VascuLightTM DL laser unit. The light emitted from the PhotoDerm or VascuLight is absorbed specifically by blood and blood vessels, resulting in the destruction of these vessels with minimal risk of damage to the surrounding structures. It is particularly useful for the redness associated with rosacea. It also gives gratifying results in the treatment of red birthmarks, such as port wine stains.

Discolored spots such as brown age spots and moles can be treated using either the PhotoDerm VL intense pulsed light system or the MediLightTM IV laser. Both of these units are also useful in tattoo removal. Traumatic tattoos, such as areas of bluish discoloration from previous abrasions or accidents can also frequently be improved using this laser technology.

For the rejuvenation of sun damaged, weathered, and wrinkled facial skin, the Nova Pulse CO2 laser and/or Erbium laser are available at Advanced Dermatology Associates. This "pulsed" laser technology allows the dermatologic surgeon to precisely remove the top-most layers of the cutaneous surface. As the resurfaced area heals with a layer of new skin, years of abnormal pigmentation, sun damage, and wrinkling improves or disappears. A one to two week healing period is necessary after this procedure. For those patients who prefer a less aggressive approach, a variety of chemical peels are also available in the office for treatment of sun damaged and wrinkled skin.

A new and exciting addition to our practice is the LightSheer Duet, diode laser hair removal system. This system represents the latest breakthrough in medical technology for the treatment of unwanted hair. LightSheer treatments can produce permanent hair reduction on any area of the body.

At Advanced Dermatology Associates, we are continually upgrading our laser technology as advances are made in the exciting field. We are proud to offer you the safest and most effective therapies available.
