What are dermal fillers?
Injectable dermal fillers are injected under the skin to provide support to the overlying skin. Dermal fillers provide the skin with resiliency and shape. The result is softening of facial lines, folds and scars.
There are several different kinds of dermal fillers:
Collagen
-Cosmoderm™ and Cosmoplast™ are human collagen. These are highly purified and undergo a series of tests to insure they are free of contaminants.
Hyaluronic Acid
-Juvederm Ultra™, Juvederm Ultra Plus™ and Restylane™ are composed of hyaluronic acid which is a natural sugar found in all living cells
Other fillers:
-Radiesse™ is a semi-solid, latex-free implant which is made up of calcium hydroxylapatite suspended in a gel.
How does it feel?
Dermal fillers are injected with a small needle to the specified area. As with any injection there may be some tenderness and discomfort. Some redness and swelling may occur up to 72 hours after the procedure.
What areas can be treated?
Dermal fillers can treat facial lines around the mouth, eyes and lips as well as deeper facial scars.
How long does it last?
Like your own collagen, injectable dermal filler loses its form and wears down over time (approximately six months to a year). As the dermal filler disappears, additional injections will maintain the smooth appearance of the lines.
