Is there a cure for acne?
Acne is one of the most common skin disorders. Acne is characterized by blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples. In more severe cases, cysts and deep nodules develop. There is no cure for acne, however, many treatments are available to keep it under control. Treatments include topical or internal antibiotics and anti-inflammatory preparations. For severe cystic acne or nodular acne, a medication such as Accutane, a vitamin A derivative, is available.
How long until my acne improves?
Acne is usually a condition of teenagers. Fortunately, most people will outgrow their acne. For most people, acne will begin to wane in their late teens and early twenties. However, for some people, acne will persist into their thirties or forties and beyond. Dermatologists can help most people with acne.
Does my diet affect my acne?
Scientific evidence suggests that diet does NOT play a major role in acne. However, some people may find their acne is aggravated by certain foods. this is often an individual response. It is known that iodine can aggravate acne and foods with a high iodinated salt content (like many fast foods) may aggravate acne.
